Analyzing Proposed Wellbore Trajectories

Launch Wellbore 3D Viewer from the DataCard with when a proposed well is displayed. The minimum fields that you must define in order to display the proposed well in Wellbore 3D Viewer are KB and TVD. Defining additional details such as Target Formation will improve reporting results when analyzing interwellbore communications. For example, when the OPWs Report Stub is generated, wells that share the same Target Formation are grouped together in the report, which can facilitate analysis.

All of the functionality for licensed wells (ellipse of uncertainty, nearest well, etc.) is also available for proposed wells. The Proposed Well tab enables you to shift depths (landing, total TVD, kickoff), shift nodes (surface and bottom hole) along the wellbore, and smooth the trajectory.

To analyze proposed wellbore trajectories

  1. Display the proposed well in a DataCard, and then using the DataCard, click Wellbore 3D Viewer.

The Wellbore 3D Viewer dialog box appears.

Proposed wells, with the exception of the subject well, which is always colored purple, are colored blue to differentiate them from other non-subject wells, which are colored green.

  1. Shift the depth of each point along the wellbore - landing, total TVD, and kickoff.
  2. Shift the depth of nodes along the wellbore - landing point, bottom hole, surface hole.
  3. Work with the proposed well switching between the DataCard and Wellbore 3D Viewer to fine tune the various aspects of the well. Refresh the view in Wellbore 3D Viewer by clicking Reload Data in the Home tab. Refresh the view in the map window by clicking Refresh in the Navigation tab.
  4. Work with functionality in the Wellbore Uncertainty & Proximity Scanning tab.
